Privacy

The short version: no accounts, no ads, no tracking. We only get your email address if you subscribe to the Thursday letter.

This policy covers bayareatx.com and the BayAreaTX app for iPhone. Last updated October 14, 2026.

What we don't do

  • There are no accounts. You never sign up or log in, on the site or in the app.
  • There are no ads, no analytics and no tracking tools. The app contains no advertising or tracking SDKs, and we don't follow you across other apps or websites.
  • We don't sell or share personal information. We barely have any.

The Thursday letter (email)

If you subscribe, on the site or in the app, your email address goes to Kit (ConvertKit), the service that sends the letter. We use it only to send the Thursday letter. Every issue has an unsubscribe link, and one click takes you off the list. If you don't subscribe, we never see your email address.

Your location

Location is optional. On the site, "Near me" asks your browser for your location and sorts the list on your device. In the app, location is used on your iPhone only, to sort places by distance and to mark a Passport stamp as "Stamped here" when you're at the place. Your location is never sent to us or anyone else, and the app doesn't track you in the background.

Stamps, notes and photos (app)

Your Passport stamps, saved places and events, notes and photos stay on your iPhone. If you use iCloud, they sync through your own private iCloud account so they appear on your other devices. We can't see them: there is no BayAreaTX server holding them. Deleting the app removes them from the phone; you can remove the iCloud copy in your iPhone's iCloud settings.

Notifications and calendars (app)

The Thursday "Plan your weekend" note and reminders for saved events are local notifications, scheduled by the app on your iPhone. No server sends them and we don't get a push token. "Add to calendar" opens the system's own calendar screen, so the app never reads your calendar. Google Calendar opens Google's own page or app.

What every website and app request shows

The app downloads the same public listings this site publishes. Like any website, our hosting provider sees basic request details (such as your IP address and the page requested) to serve and protect the site. Pages also load fonts from Google Fonts and, when you open a map, map tiles from OpenFreeMap. Event links and "Reviews on Google Maps" take you to other sites with their own privacy policies.

Children

BayAreaTX is a general-audience guide. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
